MIKKEL PLOUG / KIKA SPRANGERS
Danish guitarist and composer Mikkel Ploug has a strong personal voice and a sound that shines (La Vanguardia). He has performed all over Europe, Brazil and the US with his bands Mikkel Ploug Group, Mikkel Ploug Trio and Equilibrium (with Joachim Badenhorst & Sissel Vera Pettersen). During the first lockdown in March 2020 Mikkel Ploug started with nightly lullaby performances from the balcony of his apartment in Copenhagen. These Balcony Lullabies were released in October 2020.

With her velvety sound, sparkling sound language and compelling compositions, the Dutch saxophonist, composer and bandleader Kika Sprangers is one of the most captivating musicians in our country. Kika introduces her musical story to the listener through emotional and honest playing. In her own words: “When listeners are touched by my music, that is the greatest compliment I can receive”.

Tonight these two wonderful musicians play as a duo.

Full Sun was founded by Ziv Taubenfeld with Amsterdam’s improvised music scene as its point of departure. Stories of ancient Natufians and modern culture beings resonate in its improvisations and compositions. This evening Full Sun is tuning the antennas. What’s that strange wave? Is it a melody? A never ending groove? White noise? Does it matter? This is the vibration of the unique individuals that form Full Sun, celebrating sound and it’s endless possibilities.

These three get together again after some years! They’ve gotten together sporadically over the years and felt immediate kinship. They have an infinite array of sounds and textures at their disposal, can blend seamlessly into each other as one organism or can sound as three islands at far distances removed from one another. Electronics, electricity, strings, percussion, the three instruments’ properties have as many similarities as they have differences, which these three utilize and explore in an improvisational context.
