improvisational interplay and its exploration.
KAJA DRAKSLER / AB BAARS / TERRIE EX
Presentation of the album When The Hills Run Across The Fields – Live In Nickelsdorf.
On July 21st 2018, the third day of the 39th Konfrontationen Festival three top improvisers joined the
stage: Kaja Draksler, Ab Baars and Terrie Ex. The result was, as Guy Peters wrote: “The remarkable
thing about it was the emotional pay-off and the sheer beauty of the performance. Like some of the
best improvised music out there, whether created by the trampling energy of a collective clenched
fist or the subtle empathy of kindred spirits with a thin upper skin, this music excels with its
remarkable coherence and unity”.
We can’t wait to hear it live!
Ab Baars – reeds | Kaja Draksler – piano | Terrie Ex – guitar

BRAZDA
Brazda is the Slovenian term for ’furrow’ and might serve as a visual association for what this
multinational trio of improvisers might sound like. The group finds their refuge in the cracks between
narratives and influences and dwells in the cross-sections of aesthetics. Through multi-layered
timbers and distinct formations of their individual voices, they move from intense encounters to
tranquil continuities.
Luka Zabric – alto sax | Marcus Wärnheim – alto sax | Uldis Vitols – double bass
TASHI DORJI
Born into a musical family Dorji grew up in Bhutan. He taught himself to play guitar soaking up classic
rock and heavy metal. When he moved to Ashville (North Carolina) for college, he discovered
hardcore punk and free improvisation. In 2020 he released an experimental solo album on the Drag
City label.
Tasha Dorji – guitar
ANAPHORA TRIO
Anaphora was formed in 2018; its main sources of inspiration have been contemporary jazz, free improvisation, groove-based music, and classical music. By building a distinct improvisation lexicon, the trio has developed a unique sound and musical direction. Their music takes many shapes – organic and airy, dark and thoughtful, ironic and humorous. The focus, however, always remains the same: a passion for authentic improvisative interplay and its exploration in collective band practice.
Filippo Deorsola – piano | Jonathan Ho Chin Kiat – double bass | Marco Luparia – drums
