AVA TRIO
KETIJA RINGA / LIVA DUMPE

AVA TRIO
“Between dream and melancholy, mystery and light, with varying intensity, the members of the trio install an eminently personal aesthetic… Full of finesse and melodic idea, this album awakens the senses and is a real listening pleasure.” Culturejazz.fr
AVA Trio’s successful debut release in 2017 placed the band on several “Best Debut Album” picks. With their second studio album “Digging the Sand”, the group continues to mine the imagination and avoid the cliché-riddled and well-worn paths. Doronzo, Ekincioglu, and Basile are erudite and virtuosic guides, navigating through these rich and diverse sonic surroundings. Their destinations need no justification; their music is timeless.
Giuseppe Doronzo – baritone sax, bagpipes, flutes | Esat Ekincioglu – double bass, percussions | Pino Basile – tamburello, cupaphon, bendir
FRANK VAN BOMMEL / RAOUL VAN DER WEIDE / THOMAS JASPERS
Before they started this new trio, van Bommel and van der Weide already shared a long history of improvised music in many different ad-hoc combinations and various bands. For this new, ‘instant composing’ trio they asked the young, excellent and versatile drummer Thomas Jaspers to join them in their adventurous work in progress. Three different angles and backgrounds will give this trio a new starting point of improvised musical expression.
Frank van Bommel – piano, glockenspiel | Thomas Jaspers – drums | Raoul van der Weide – double bass, crackle-box, melodic percussion
KETIJA RINGA KARAHONA / LĪVA DUMPE
Līva Dumpe is a vocalist, pianist and composer from Latvia. With her voice, she effortlessly switches between lyricality and sensitivity to virtuous experiments with texts and harmonies. Tameless, impresionistic. She’s actively performing with many versatile music projects, such as Fuensanta Ensamble Grande, Chai Masters, Marta Arpini Pocket Orchestra and her own quintet, which demonstrates Līvas expression at its fullest.
Ketija Ringa- Karahona is a flutist and composer from Latvia, based in Amsterdam since 2019. Besides writing for and playing with her own quintet, she performs as a side-woman with projects such as Kit Downes Dr. Snap, Marta Arpini Pocket Orchestra, Līva Dumpe Quintet, Hristo Goleminov Octet and more. In 2021 she won the Keep an Eye Outstanding Talent Award.
Her classical background merged with an interest in improvisation of different styles makes her a unique flute player who’s gradually making a mark in the jazz scene.
