CLAUDIA QUINTET
Led by composer, drummer and four time Grammy nominee John Hollenbeck, The Claudia Quintet have quietly but definitively recast jazz into shimmering new shapes inflected by classical minimalism, new music, progressive rock and post rock. They are one of the most influential stylists on other musicians in cutting edge jazz today. The sound of jazz and what jazz can be in our time has changed because of their sound and stance. Celebrating over 15 years of working together, this NYC ensemble’s sound continues to explore the edge without alienating the mainstream, proving that genre defying music can be for everyone.
Jeremy Viner – Clarinet, tenor saxophone

MICHAEL MOORE & HARMEN FRAANJE
A unique collaboration between two renowned musicians in the Dutch jazz scene.
Michael Moore has a deep understanding of both the American jazz and the Dutch improvised music traditions, but his writing and playing are also influenced by music from other cultures. He has played Turkish music with Ogüz Büyükberber and Hüsnü Senlendirici, Malinese with Toumani Diabate, Keletigui Diabate and Habib Koite, Portuguese with Fernando Lameirinhas and Cristina Branco, and Brazilian with Rogerio Bicudo, Banda Mantiqueira and Paulo Moura. The musics of Sicily, Madagascar, Istria and Indonesia have also been particularly influential. He has collaborated with and been influenced by poets and poetry, dancers and other visual artists. Michael continues to write, improvise and play, and we’re happy to welcome him back to De Ruimte.
Harmen Fraanje has collaborated with Michael Moore on many occasions and in multiple groups. He’s very active and continuously on the road to perform with projects that he leads or co-leads. He performs frequently with trio Reijseger Fraanje Sylla, with cellist Ernst Reijseger and Senegalese vocalist and percussionist Mola Sylla. The trio recorded two trio albums for the German label Winter and Winter: ’Down Deep’ and ‘Count till Zen’. Both albums captured worldwide attention and got very positive reviews.
Further the trio recorded and composed music for several movies by Werner Herzog, Roberto Zazzara and Martijn Maria Smits. Other artists Harmen has worked with include Guilhem Verger, Malik Mezzadri, Juan Parra, Fredrik Ljungkvist and, yes, Michael Moore. Tonight will see Harmen and Michael perform as a duo, and we couldn’t ask for anything more.
