MOTHER TONGUE
Mola Sylla, Oscar Jan Hoogland and Frank Rosaly form Mother Tongue. Rosaly has been involved in the improvised and experimental music community since 2001, navigating a fine line between the vibrant improvised music, experimental, rock and jazz communities. Like Rosaly, singer and percussionist Mola Sylla is in many ways a musical explorer. Sylla’s rhythm and melodic compositions
differ from the recognized western patterns and provide surprising twists. Oscar Jan Hoogland is the sound of Amsterdam in person. He is an instant composer and inventor of his own instrument by joining a clavichord, a keyboard instrument from the 17th century, to 220 Volt electricity. He tears like a tornado through the Amsterdam jazz and impro scene.
Mola Sylla – voice, m’bira, xalam, percussion | Oscar Jan Hoogland – electric clavichord | Frank Rosaly – drums, percussion
SUPERINCA & THE GALACTIC GREEN
Cumbia punk rock and tons of endless energy make Superinca & the Galactic Green a magical act to witness. They can play for hours on end, combining screaming stubborn keyboards, sweet perfect guitar harmonies, carried with the never ending swing of the bass and the drums while singing and bouncing us all towards a trancelike state.
Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti – voice | Oscar Jan Hoogland – keys | Joep Bollinger – bass | Frank Rosaly – drums
RAE BAND
Rae Band plays Eritrean music. The traditional basis of vocals and krar get a contemporary sound through the electric amplification of the krar and the beats and keyboard virtuosity of Hajam G/meskel! Of course there is no better place to enjoy this music than the Semai club.
Hajam G/meskel – keyboard | John Ghide. – electric crack voice | Meles Kubrom – electric krar, voice
